For the past four years, me and my sister have gone to seen the consistantly enjoyable The Pogues at Laandan's Brixton Carling Academy at this festive hour. Now, obviously, mister MacGowan has gone a bit to shit with the booze, but he's still entertaining. When he, well, 'sings' he is understandable, except when he's singing Transmetropolitan for which he needs the Cliff Notes to sing along to. And it adds to a somewhat modern twist on 'punk' as he still performs lead vocals when, possibly, he shouldn't. It is, however, upsetting when he speaks to the crowd as no-one can understand what age-old Irish wisdom he was trying to impart when all we heard was 'Parresen, gurfk marragh' I swear this is an actual transcription of something he said.
Regardless of how well they perform every Christmas, was is consitent is the downward trend of the quality of the support act. This year it was The Holloways. And they were shit. Undeniably so. It was disturbingly perverse.
